American Airlines has declared that it is ready to end its codeshare partnership deals with Qatar Airways and Etihad Airways. American Airlines has complained that these the two airliners have received illegal subsidies from their governments.
On Wednesday, American said that it no longer is keen to share agreements with Etihad and Qatar on account of this dispute.
The process of code-sharing involves the idea of the airlines selling tickets of each other’s flights and also share their revenues.
Breaking up this partnership represents the latest twist in a conflict between Delta, American and United Airlines as well as the airlines of the Middle-Eastern nations that deny having received subsidies.
On the other hand, Akbar Al-Baker who is the CEO of Qatar Airways said that his airliner has been planning to purchase 10% of American Airlines Group Inc.
In a regulatory filing on Wednesday, American Airlines said that Qatar Airways has filed a new notice stating its intention to buy the shares of American Airlines. American said that it did not solicit the investment.
