American Express Global Business Travel (GBT) has announced on June’16 that it has acquired SMT, the travel management company (TMC) based in Finland. SMT is a subsidiary of Finnair and it has maintained its importance with GBT network for almost 27 years.
Area Travel Agency and Finland Travel Bureau have formed SMT after a merger in 2013. SMT provides travel management, meeting and event services throughout Finland.
According to the Chief Strategy Officer of GBT, Stevan Curts, the acquisition is one important step for the evolution of global business of GBT. He has stated that the purchase of SMT is one of the milestones on the strategic journey of GBT.
Chairman for SMT’s Board of Directors and the Chief Commercial Officer of Finnair, Juha Järvinen has stated that SMT will flourish in the dynamic environment provided by GBT. He has also informed that GBT will provide an ideal platform to develop business in Finland for SMT.
Järvinen has informed that Finnair Group will keep focusing on the group’s core airline business.
