ANAANA HOLDINGS today announces that it has signed the CEO Statement for Women’s Empowerment Principles(WEP)*1, an initiative created in collaboration with United Nations Women and United Nations Global Compact, to bolster gender equality in high-level corporate leadership.

ANA HOLDINGS is committed to improving gender equality and women’s empowerment. Its airline, ANA, which is the largest in Japan, has four women on its board and has a target to achieve women in 15% of management positions by the end of FY2020.

The CEO Statement of Support for the Women’s Empowerment Principles is designed to encourage signatories to take leadership on gender equality and women’s empowerment, domestically and globally. ANA HOLDINGS supports this principle and has also agreed to partner with UN Women and UN Global Compact to become a pilot company for WEPs GAP Analysis Tool*2.

ANA HOLDINGS as a group will also continue to contribute to the establishment of Sustainable Development Goals*3.

  • *1 About Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEP)
Launched in 2010, the Women’s Empowerment Principles – Equality Means Business, have grown to become the largest business-led gender equality initiative in the world, endorsed by more than 1,100 CEOs from 80 countries. The Principles highlight that empowering women to participate fully in economic life across all sectors and throughout all levels of economic activity is essential to build strong economies; establish more stable and fair societies; achieve internationally agreed goals for development, sustainability, and human rights; improve quality of life for women, men, families and communities; and propel business’ operations and goals.

  • *2 About WEPs Gap Analysis Tool
This tool is designed to assist companies in identifying gaps in gender equality and scale up implementation of the WEPs. By answering questionnaires people can recognize the gap between the principle and reality. Both Japanese and German governments are supporting the system, to be completed by March 2017, and two Japanese companies, including ANA HOLDINGS, will join as pilot companies.

  • *3 About Sustainable Development Goals
In September 2015, at the United Nations General Assembly, countries adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals to improve the lives of people everywhere.
