Under the government’s strategic plan to strengthen and modernise the national flag carrier, state-owned Angolan Airlines (TAAG) is preparing to receive this year its eighth Boeing 777-300ER aircraft from the manufacturer in the United States.
The seventh Boeing 777 aircraft was received by Angola’s Transport Minister Augusto da Silva Tomás at a ceremony in Luanda. The aircraft had arrived from the Boeing facility at Everett, near Seattle in Washington State.
The new aircraft has been named ‘Iona’. With this, the Angolan flag-airliner became the largest operator of the Boeing 777 in southern Africa.
The Minister said the new aircraft would help TAAG to maximise its routes and to gradually reduce its operating costs.
