As per data from the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, Antalya, for the first time ever witnessed a record number of 5 million tourists visiting the city in January-June.
During the said period, the number of tourists visiting the city grew by 15 percent from a year before. By the end of June, international tourist arrivals are anticipated to reach 5.5 million.
Between Jan. 1 and June 23, the main airport Antalya Airport of the city greeted a total of 4.93 million international tourists as 101,000 visitors landed at the Gazipaşa Airport.
In June, 75,000 holidaymakers, on average per day, came to the city from abroad. The recently available official datas showed that in the first four months of 2019, a total of 8.74 million overseas tourists visited Turkey. This statistics showed a strong 12.2 percent growth from the same period in 2018.
Overseas tourist arrivals soared 24 percent on an annual basis to 3.29 million in April alone. From tourism activities, government anticipates $34 billion revenues this year as its tourism revenue forecasts for next year and 2021 are $38 billion and $42 billion, respectively.
