ARINC Marks Milestone with vMUSE Expansion at Dubai International and Al Maktoum International First International Deployment for Windows 7

ARINCARINC EMEA today announced a major milestone for its vMUSE common-use passenger processing solution (CUPPS) at Dubai International, with a total of 34 international airlines now using the vMUSE platform. This includes Emirates airline, which utilizes its proprietary system, Mercator Airport Control System (MACS) with ARINC’s passenger processing platform. The 34 carriers are also newly certified for vMUSE running on Windows 7, making Dubai International the first global site for the application.

ARINC and dnata signed a new five-year agreement in 2012 to upgrade the iMUSE platform to the latest vMUSE version. Under the agreement, ARINC provided the vMUSE software while the Emirates Group supplied the IT hardware platform. This solution offered a technologically advanced Virtualised Dual Core fully redundant solution that has benefitted the Emirates Group significantly by delivering an optimal balance between technology and cost.

vMUSE is also being utilized to support multiple airports from a common infrastructure. “With vMUSE live at Dubai International, we have begun the rollout at Al Maktoum International at Dubai World Central for the passenger terminal opening in October,” said Graham Parker, Manager Business Technology ‐ dnata Airport Operations and Cargo.

“We are delighted with the success of vMUSE at Dubai International,” said Tony Lynch, ARINC’s Regional Director, Middle East & Africa. “It is the perfect migration path for airlines and airports embarking on CUPPS regardless of where they are today and where they plan to be in the future. Whether it’s an iMUSE terminal emulator, CUPPS application, or airline native application, vMUSE can support it, and can handle any combination of these simultaneously.”

ARINC’s vMUSE supports both legacy common use applications as well as the latest CUPPS and CUSS applications. vMUSE enables boarding passes and baggage tags to be printed on low-cost, off-the-shelf printers — the elimination of custom printers and costly paper products for boarding passes can reduce costs by as much as 4:1. vMUSE can be distributed over local, campus, or wide area networks to provide complete passenger data-handling capabilities to common-use as well as single-use installations. vMUSE uses off-the-shelf operating systems, virtualisation, and web-based technology as the platform for running airline applications.

Its open design allows for easy integration with other airport systems such as flight information display, baggage reconciliation, gate management, and operational databases. “With dnata implementing the latest in platform standards at Dubai International and Al Maktoum International airports, we are in a very good place to enable the use of any airline Departure Control System, now or in the future,” said John Segaert, CIO, Dubai Airports.
