Arne Sorenson and Randy Smith have been selected as the 2017 inductees into the U.S. Travel Hall of Leaders, which is noted as the most revered honour in the global travel community. By this induction, 94 travel industry professionals have been inducted into the U.S. Travel Hall of Leaders since it was created in 1969.
Arne Sorenson, the President and CEO of Marriott International and current Chairman of U.S. Travel’s CEO Roundtable, and Randy Smith, Co-Founder And Chairman Of Data And Analytics firm STR, will be honored during a luxurious dinner on 14th November 2017, among more than 100 industry leaders at U.S. Travel’s fall board meeting in Washington, D.C.
U.S. Travel’s Hall of Leaders are named on the continued and striking contributions that have positive impact on the global travel industry, which are stimulated at the greater achievement, and raised industry-wide standards. These business magnets are also stressed on the economic growth, employment opportunities and also advocate the industry in a right way through decades.
Arne Sorenson and Randy Smith make these brands leading in the tourism industry by promoting these brands in USA and other destinations. Randy Smith created a data research company that has been the industry standard for measuring the health of the economy of the hotels over 30 years. He is also responsible to bring new advancements through the active participation in different travel and tourism associations.
Arne Sorenson joined Marriott in the year 1996 and gradually became the third CEO in the company’s history in 2012—and the first without the Marriott surname. After Marriott’s acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts more than 675,000 people wear a “Marriott” name badge at managed and franchised hotels worldwide.
Sorenson at present is a member of the board of Brand USA, serving as treasurer and chairman of its Finance Committee after having previously served as chairman of the board. He also served as Vice Chair of the President’s Export Council under President Barack Obama, helping raise the visibility of the travel industry with multinational CEOs and leaders at the highest levels of US government.
Randy Smith co-founded STR (formerly Smith Travel Research) with his late wife, Carolyn, in 1985 and brought a revolution in hotel and tourism industry by developing new conception and helps in informing new decisions and the drive strategies. This travel research company drives nearly 58,000 hotels and 7.8 million rooms across 180 countries.
