Asean countries are going to have skill standards in tourism sector

globeThe Asean countries government is going to launch the Mutual Recognition Arrangement for Tourism Professionals (MRA-TP) at an international conference in Jakarta on August 8-9. They will do it in accordance with certification boards and organisations, , representatives from training and educational institutions and tourism stakeholders.

It will be organised by Indonesian Tourism Ministry. There will be standardisation for 32 profiles related to hospitality and tourism sector, and 52 qualifications will be necessary for designations like , food and beverage services, tour operations, front office, housekeeping, food production and travel agencies. In order to help the people achieve these qualifications, 242 training “toolboxes” will be started wherein they will be trained by experts.

Tourism Minister Arief Yahya in a press release said, “The fulfillment of the MRA-TP initiative will boost the quality of services, as it will create a mobile, trained and confident workforce suited to travel industry needs.”

Other than setting up a standard for the tourism industry, this system will also allow people to go to other countries for work, all across Asean.
