New Jersey Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto will be speaking at 10:30 a.m. at the Professional Firefighters Association of New Jersey state convention in Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City on Wednesday.
Prieto’s trip to Atlantic City will be his first since Gov. Chris Christie signed a rescue package that gives the city time to avoid a state takeover. The package was something he championed along with Mayor Don Guardian and City Council President Marty Small.
The takeover bill would give the city 150 days to draft a five-year fiscal plan that includes a balanced budget in 2017 to avoid a takeover. A companion bill bars casinos from appealing property taxes by allowing them to make fixed payments in lieu of taxes (PILOTs) for 10 years.
