notre dameTourists and residents were advised to stay away from the surrounding area near Notre Dame Cathedral by Paris police officials after a man reportedly attacked an officer with a hammer.

The suspect was shot in the thorax when he failed to stop his advance after warnings issued by police in the courtyard at Notre Dame.

From the CNN’s television coverage, about 14 million visitors enjoy the location every year. The news of the attack created much stir across social media.
