In comparison to August of last year, the number of overseas visitor arrivals increased by 3.5% along with the night stay of the foreign tourists in commercial accommodation increased by 3.8% to 2 million in the month of August of this year. The growth rate was 1.9 percent in Budapest with half of all foreign tourism nights. Over ten percent was spent by foreign tourists at Lake Balaton than in the same month in 2016.
The number in terms of domestic tourist arrivals grew by 1.9 percent in August, and commercial accommodation spent nights by domestic tourists increased by 2.3 percent to nearly 2.4 million. But for Lake Balaton region, the number of tourism nights for domestic visitors increased in every region.
In hotels, room occupancy grew by 1.6 percentage points to 73.8% in August. The tariff for the hotel rooms were 12 percent higher at the national level and 21 percent higher in Budapest than 2016.
Because of the rise in room and accommodation tariff, the revenues in terms of accommodation establishments also increased dynamically than tourist arrivals. The gross revenues of commercial accommodation establishments in total grew by 15 percent to HUF 56 billion; among all these, accommodation fee revenues grew by 16% (to HUF 37 bln), catering revenues by 13% (to HUF 9 bln), and other revenues by 14% (to HUF 11 bln).
