Australia is attracting more Indian tourists as the country is hosting the next T20 World Cup for men and women in the year 2020. The visitors from India to Australia reached 367,000 during the year ended May 2019, a 11% growth from the same period in the previous year.
Nishant Kashikar, country manager, India and Gulf, Tourism Australia said that they are expecting the number of visitors to touch 5 lakh in the next two years and reach 1 million by 2025.
To support increasing demand from India Australia is gearing up to ensure fast visa processing. At present the average time taken for online visa application is 15 days. They also aim to sustain the growth trajectory and the upcoming T20 cricket world cup provides a platform for both buyers and sellers to offer the Indian traveller a world class product, said Brent Anderson, regional general manager, South & South East Asia, Tourism Australia.
The month of May saw 40,600 visitors from India, 6.6% increase from a year ago, recording the highest ever visit in any given month from the country to Australia. Maharashtra accounts for the maximum number of travellers from India to Australia.
With Kerala being one of the fastest growing markets with nearly 17,000 visitors, the 17th edition of Tourism Australia’s premier trade event Australia Marketplace India was held in Kochi last week with 77 Australian tourism businesses showcasing their products to 95 Indian travel companies.
