Visitors from India to Australia reached 367,000 during this year till May 2019, marking an 11% growth compared to the same period last year. “We are expecting the number of visitors to touch 5 lakh in the next two years and reach 1 million by 2025,” said Nishant Kashikar, country manager, India and Gulf, Tourism Australia.
To support this growing demand from India, Australia is ensuring fast visa processing. At present, the average time taken for online visa application is 15 days. “We aim to sustain the growth trajectory and the upcoming T20 cricket world cup provides a platform for both buyers and sellers to offer the Indian traveller a world class product,” said Brent Anderson, regional general manager, South & South East Asia, Tourism Australia.
May witnessed 40,600 visitors from India, marking 6.6% increase from a year ago, recording the highest ever visit in any given month from India to Australia. The maximum number of travellers from India to Australia is from Maharashtra.
With Kerala being one of the fastest growing markets with nearly 17,000 visitors, the 17th edition of Tourism Australia’s premier trade event Australia Marketplace India was held in Kochi last week with 77 Australian tourism businesses displaying their products to 95 Indian travel companies.
