The Mastercard Asia Pacific Destinations Index has revealed that Australia continues to be a favorable holiday destination for the Kiwis though there has been an increased interest in South Asia locales.
The residents of New Zealand represent the highest number of travellers to Australia with 18.2% of in-bound tourists belonging to New Zealand. The maximum number of New Zealanders head to Brisbane while the second largest group of Kiwis prefers travelling to Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.
But then, about 23% of the world’s international arrivals are from Asia Pacific as reported in 2015. Since 2005, Asia Pacific has witnessed the strongest growth in global tourism. And, Kiwis are making the most of this exotic tourist locale.
Peter Chisnall, country manager, Mastercard, New Zealand said that though Australia is a favorite destination for Kiwis, their habits are likely to change in the following years with Asia becoming more reasonably priced.
Asia Pacific regions are gradually becoming dearer to travellers who are budget conscious and yet are eager to experience world-class destinations. Moreover, the regions of Asia-Pacific also offer interesting options in terms of accommodation, drinking and eating. Also, the growth of competitive fares in airlines are encouraging Kiwis o explore new locales.
The prepaid travel cards offered by Mastercard are letting Kiwis make their budgets stretch comfortably and helping them save while they are on holidays.
The Asia Pacific travel industry is worth US$2.39 trillion that guarantees about 157.8 million jobs this year.
China has the maximum travellers heading for Asia Pacific destinations. About 50.4 million tourists are likely to travel to Asia Pacific regions this year. Overall, the leading three destinations based in Oceania are all in Australia. It is led by Sydney that boasts of 3.4 million international overnight arrivals, followed by Melbourne that gets about 2.4 million and then Brisbane that draws 2.3 million visitors.
On the other hand, the most attractive destinations in New Zealand are Auckland that attracts 1.6 million visitors, Queenstown that collects 1 million and Christchurch that accounts for 0.9 million arrivals.
Now, about 39% of the visitors to New Zealand are from Australia, while 11% are from China and only 7% are from UK.
