Australia is making a beeline for Chinese tourists as they are the second largest source of tourists. Looking at the response Australia is planning A$40 million global tourism campaign targeting the new group of Chinese Holiday makers who prefer travelling independently.
In the past 12 months 1 million Chinese tourists flocked to Australia. The numbers have grown by 100,000 since the last fifteen years.
The young middle class has the financial ability and also the confidence to stay longer and travel further. They also have the capacity to manage itinerates as they are technologically savvy and know what they want.
With the Australian economy taking a back gear with plunging iron ore prices the only hope is tourism. Tourism Research Australia forecasts Chinese spending to double to A$13.7 billion by 2024-25.
Tourism is among the fastest growing sector which employs half a million people. Tourism is said to bring A$113 billion by June 2016. Foreign tourism is said to bring one third of the profits home.
