South Australian TourismThe exciting cross country and show jumping will feature this weekend at the Australian International 3 Day Event in the city’s eastern parklands.

Minister for Tourism Leon Bignell said the world’s best equestrian competitors have again come to Adelaide for this world-class event.

“The Australian International 3 Day Event was first held in 1997 and quickly grew to become the only event of its calibre in the southern hemisphere,” he said.

“It’s one of just six Concours Complet International (CCI) four-star events around the world and part of the International Equestrian Federation’s Classics series, with other equivalent events held in places such as Badminton in England and Kentucky in the United States.

“The State Government, through Events South Australia, has been a proud supporter of the Australian International 3 Day Event since it began.

“This exciting event brings interstate and international visitors to Adelaide for world-class competition.

“It offers family fun and is also a great place to catch up with friends and enjoy the spring sunshine,” said Minister Bignell.

Saturday will see riders take part in Qantas Cross Country Day – with free entry for children – as well as twilight showjumping.

Sunday’s final day of competition will feature CCI four-star showjumping, and the prize-giving ceremony.

Minister Bignell said the parklands are an ideal place to hold the Australian International 3 Day Event, offering a range of vantage points for spectators, and adding to the growing vibrancy of the city.

“With Australian riders vying to qualify for the 2014 World Equestrian Games in France, the stakes are high, and the action is again sure to thrill,” he said.

Australian rider Chris Burton is a special guest of the Australian International 3 Day Event this year and will be joined by eventing stars including Andrew Hoy, Clay Fredericks, Megan Jones, Sonja Johnson and 2012 winner Craig Barrett.
