The Australian Open has launched a tourism campaign to attract visitors to the country in wake of the bushfire crisis. Hollywood actor Chris Hemsworth helped launch the initiative which has the name “Australia is Open”. It comes amid fears that the fires which have devastated much of the country have put off international tourists from visiting.

Following the bushfires that devastated many parts of the nation, Australia is Open – open for business and open for tourism. And with all eyes on Melbourne as the tournament reaches its thrilling crescendo, we want our global friends to plan a visit and share the many iconic experiences that make it such a special part of the world. Hemsworth, who is from Melbourne, is known for playing Thor in the Marvel universe films.

As you all know, Australia has had an incredibly difficult time these past few months but thankfully, people from all over the world have been there to support us and help us get through it.

More than 30 people have died due to the Australian bushfires, with thousands more losing their homes. The high temperatures and drought caused the crisis, with blazes destroying huge areas of land.

A sum of $400,000 (£304,000/€360,000) was donated to the cause by the International Tennis Federation and the three other grand slam tournaments – the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open.

Tennis Australia’s Aces for Bushfire Relief campaign has also pledged a donation for every ace hit across the Australian summer of tennis. A number of players have also supported the appeal for help.
