In a unique way of promoting India as a tourist destination, an Australian ultra-marathon runner set off on a 4,600-km run Tuesday from the southernmost tip of the country. Pat Farmer, a former Australian MP, began his run from Kanyakumari and he would end it in Indian-controlled Kashmir.
The Indian Tourism Ministry in a statement said, “Farmer’s Spirit of India Run is aimed at cementing relations between India and Australia.”
Farmer began his endeavor “with a view to creating awareness of India as a Must Experience destination for travellers from Australia … and raising funds for education of girl child,” it added.
Farmer is accompanied by a TV crew that will prepare a documentary to be screened on Australia’s TV Network.
