Australian Tourism Minister, Paul Papalia is prepared to declare a national celebration today for Rottnest’s world famous residents.
To the island, from September 13 to 15, people will be invited to enjoy a weekend submerged in all things quokka.
Quokkas have single-handedly raised the profile of Western Australia across the globe with a visit remaining incomplete without a quokka selfie, just ask Roger Federer, Chris Hemsworth and Margot Robbie among others.
Children will travel to the island to celebrate the birthday for free and have their admission fee waived while attending the inaugural event.
Special $50 return tickets will be available for adults wanting to head to Rottnest.
Hotels and accommodation providers will offer stay packages starting at $229 for a two-bedroom unit and check-outs stretching to as late as 4pm.
