Australian War MemorialThe Australian War Memorial has been named Australia’s number one landmark in Trip Advisor’s Traveller’s Choice awards overtaking the Sydney Opera House.

“This award is fantastic, and a fitting recognition for one of Australia’s most significant attractions,” VisitCanberra Director Ian Hill said.

“A visit to the Australian War Memorial should be on everyone’s must-do list. This TripAdvisor award win comes off the back of record visitation to Canberra, with 4.4 million visitors to Australia’s capital in the year ending December 2015,” he added.

The awards listed the top 10 Australian landmarks, as voted by TripAdvisor reviewers. Award winners were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for man-made landmarks worldwide, gathered over a 12-month period.

The Australian War Memorial also ranked 23 in the world’s top man made landmarks category.

Australian Parliament House also featured in the top 10, coming in at the number nine spot.
