australia flagThe tourism industry in Australia is set to undergo a number of changes with the announcement of Australia’s federal budget for 2016.

The funding for Australia’s main tourism body has been cut by 4 million Australian dollars (3 million U.S. dollars) to 140 million Australian dollars (105.08 million U.S. dollars).

A winner from the 2016 federal budget however was the wine industry, which will receive a 50 million Australian dollar (37.53 million U.S. dollars) boost over 4 years.

“We welcome this initiative and we look forward to working closely with the grape and wine sector to design and implement the 50 million Australian dollar (37.53 million U.S. dollars) support package to help boost domestic wine-related tourism and export assistance,” Wine Australia chair Brian Walsh said.

“These new measures will help build regional employment and increase the wine sector’s contribution to the Australian economy.”
