Leading travel and food writers from Austria have been visiting Northern Ireland, as guests of Tourism Ireland and Tourism NI. The journalists – whose publications have a combined circulation of more than 1.5 million readers – were here to learn more about Northern Ireland’s Year of Food and Drink.
As well as enjoying a food tour of Belfast, the group travelled via the Causeway Coastal Route to the Giant’s Causeway, stopping off en route at The Gobbins. The journalists visited various food producers in Co Down, including Kilbegan Cider in Dundrum. They also had the opportunity to have lunch with food historian Lady Dunleath, at Ballywalter House.
Zoë Redmond, Tourism Ireland’s manager for Central Europe, said: “Tourism Ireland was delighted to invite these journalists to visit Northern Ireland, to experience our superb food and drink offering for themselves. Publicity is an important element of our overall promotional programme, helping to raise awareness through the Austrian media of the many things to see and do on a holiday here.
“This year, we are inviting people everywhere to come and enjoy 366 days of celebration during Northern Ireland’s Year of Food and Drink – when they will discover the best of local produce and have the chance to experience the wonderful landscapes and coastline which make Northern Ireland so special. With so many great events happening throughout 2016, our message is that there has never been a better time to enjoy a true taste of Northern Ireland.”
Tourism Ireland is undertaking a busy programme of promotions throughout 2016, to build on the growth in visitor numbers last year. As well as showcasing our superb food and drink, Tourism Ireland continues to promote the Causeway Coastal Route and The Gobbins Cliff Path, as well as other iconic experiences like Titanic Belfast, the Giant’s Causeway and our unique National Trust properties and, of course, our world-class golf.
