Behind the development of tourism in the Mariana Islands, the accessible location of Philippines is set to become a key component here. Aviareps is trying its best to include country as a key partner of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota in their push to become an emerging tourism destination among ASEAN member countries. Jean Lugan, Aviareps Philippines Office Director said that they will try to profit from the strategic location of Philippines and start direct flights to the Mariana Island in order to enhance tourism in both countries.
To quote Lugan, ‘There is a lot of potential in the fact that the Philippines is only four hours away from Saipan and that it is only Philippine Airlines that has direct flights to the Mariana Islands in the region.’
On Wednesdays and Sundays Philippine Airlines (PAL) flies to Saipan from Manila and on Mondays and Thursdays from Saipan. However, the national carrier doesn’t have any direct flights to the Mariana Islands from any other ASEAN countries so far. To quote Lugan, ‘The Philippines is looking at 6.50 million tourist arrivals this year. We can easily surpass that by having neighboring countries go through the Philippines first and spend a few days here before going to the Mariana Islands.’
