Arab tourism helps in direct employment with around 10 million jobs, which means that 12% of the jobs in Arab are in the tourism and aviation areas. This was said by Bandar Fahad Al Fehaid, president, Arab Tourism Organization of the Arab League. Al Fehaid said during the Arab Aviation Summit 2016 held on Dec 5 at the Dead Sea, Jordan that investment in Arab in the tourism sector is expected to reach $323 billion by 2020. He said that Arab Tourism Organization of the Arab League is aiming plans and programs for supporting health tourism in Arab countries.
Al Fehaid said that expenditure of Arabs abroad and in countries outside the Arab region is around $28 billion every year and with success in health tourism sector, the region should have 35% of this amount of expenditure. He said that tourism and aviation are the two biggest employment generators globally, since they create direct jobs or indirect ones in other sectors. The theme of the summit is ‘Linking Cultures, Driving Economies’, seeking to draw attention to the mutually supporting roles the aviation and tourism sectors play in contributing to the greater economic development of the region.
The summit brought together government officials, industry stockholders and experts for reflecting on aviation as a tool for linking cultures and economies. It was held under the patronage of Lina Annab, Minister of Tourism and Antiques, Jordan who said that aviation is a key driver for strong economy creating and supporting jobs globally and reducing poverty. She said that tourism and aviation are linked and tourism constitutes major role for any emerging economy.
