Azerbaijan started this year with lots of new achievements and victories, especially in the tourism sector. Baku continues to attract tourist flow from the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States), Arabic countries, Asia and Europe. Tourism has now taken a centerstage in Azerbaijan. Simplification of visa rules has also contributed to the development of tourism. Recently Azerbaijan is experiencing tourism boom with introduction of national low cost air carrier and other cheap flights.
Along with the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), planes of air carriers like Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, Aeroflot and others fly to Baku. Sociopolitical stability in Azerbaijan is also a contributing factor behind Azerbaijan’s tourism growth. The recent developments by Azerbaijan government for developing its tourism sector are perfectly on time and important for the country’s economic development. This is important for developing the growing non-oil economy in Baku by focusing on sectors like agriculture, industry, transport and most importantly, tourism. Azerbaijan has identified four important factors for development of tourism sector till 2020. Its first priority is to fully exploit Baku’s tourism potential and develop its infrastructure for attracting large number of foreign tourists.
Azerbaijan is thinking of coming up with a favorable sphere for the development of tourism and recreation sector in the country. Tourism, no doubt is the most promising sector in the country with its nature, mountains, sea and pleasant climate. Azerbaijan, which has a developed tourism infrastructure, nine climate zones and five UNESCO world heritage sites, can very quickly make its mark in the global tourism market. Globally renowned hotel brands like Hilton, Hyatt, Sheraton, Kempinski, Marriott, Fairmont and Four Seasons are currently present in Baku.
