Bahamas embraces Cuba’s tourism growth

BahamasCaribbean countries shouldn’t be threatened by Cuba’s tourism growth, but instead try to take advantage of the opportunities presented, said Bahamas Minister of Tourism Obie Wilchcombe.

“…we are all unique destinations. The Bahamas is unique and so is Cuba and so is Jamaica and Antigua and so on,” he said while addressing a District Rotary Conference at Atlantis Paradise Island.

More than 650 Rotarians from 10 Caribbean countries attended the meetings.
He said the Caribbean countries should not feel threatened by Cuba but adopt a ‘multi-destination marketing’.

“I think what we ought to do is adopt multi-destination marketing. You are going to hear a lot about that in our tourism industry over the next couple of years. That’s going to be the new thing,” he said.

The Bahamas is currently eyeing the European market, the Minister said, while continuing to tap into new tourism markets.
