As per the editorial of the Tribune 242, in the month of June, a major reassessment in terms of the tourism policy of the government and appropriate endorsement in the face of increasing competition from the Caribbean rivals, including Cuba took place.
As the editor explains that they were pretty much inspired to recommend the appointment of new Tourism Minister which he described as a vigorous and practical approach.
He said that they were equally inspired by the welcome note of the Prime Minister to the Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association in terms of the expansion of the tourism of the country, highlighting the history and culture.
Thousands of Bahamians are employed under the tourism sector and attracts good amount of foreign exchange which is essential to import goods and services on which the way of life is dependant.
He further adds by saying that the government should give suitable official support to the industry. The work of the Ministry of Tourism – its objectives, priorities and staffing should be under regular inspection. On a time to time basis, the activities should be reevaluated to allow it to stay at par with the competition from other countries that are always altering and updating their tourism product.
