BahrainBahrain aims to increase tourism revenues to the gross domestic product (GDP) to 3.2 percent by 2018, Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Zayed Al-Zayani announced.

 
Bahrain strives to diversify resources of national economy, away from energy sector, particularly after the sharp decline in oil prices, Al-Zayani said in a statement to KUNA on the sidelines of the Arab Tourism Day.

 
The Gulf Kingdom has set a multi-faceted strategy, to boost growth of tourism sector in the coming years, he pointed out.

 
Increasing tourist-attracting events, facilitating visa procedures, upgrading infrastructure, and graduating highly-trained tourist guides are some of the strategies.

 
Bahrain plans to build a new bridge, parallel to the King Fahad Bridge, which is used by nearly 83 percent of the tourists visiting the country. It also plans to develop Bahrain international airport and hotels.
