The terminal station is located at Elephant & Castle.
It is supposed to be extended to Lewisham through Old Kent Road and New Cross Gate in the UK. This extension would provide a direct link for travellers in south-east London, particularly along Old Kent Road in order to reach central London. It would offer additional capacity for as many as 65,000 trips in the peak hours, minimizing congestion on local bus and also the National Rail services.
The brand new railway line would be reducing the journey to the region of central London by nearly up to nine minutes.
In addition, it would also offer a train for every two or three minutes between central London and Lewisham. The construction on the extension line is scheduled to commence in the year 2023 and it would be fully completed within 2029.
This extension has been planned to improve the connectivity between the major areas in south-east London.
Also, it has been planned with an aim to raise the capacity of the already existing transportation network, while minimizing the travel times between the key locales. The potential route alignment had been created after a detailed analysis and also feedback that was received from an initial public consultation that had been launched by Transport for London (TfL) in the year 2014.
