Firefighters and RCMP (Royal Canada Mounted Police) responded to the reports of a fire around 1.15 a.m. that broke out at the Bashaw Motor Inn. This hotel is based in the area of 55 Street and 45 Avenue.
RCMP searched through the debris that was caused by the fire. And, RCMP discovered the remains of a person inside the debris.
However, the police is yet to identify the victim because of a broken water main. This prevented the police personnel from recovering the dead body. An autopsy would be carried out this week for the identification of the person as well as to know the cause of death of the person.
One of the three people inside the hotel had been airlifted to a hospital on Sunday.
Now, that person has already been released. But then, the other two people are still in a critical condition. The incident is currently being investigated by the RCMP Major Crimes Unit.
The police authorities have mentioned that the RCMP feels that this incident is a criminal one, unless they receive further evidence that suggests otherwise. The RCMP would soon release more details about the incident. The region of Bashaw is located at a distance of nearly 135 kms from the south-eastern part of Edmonton.
