As per the US President, Donald Trump, the Scottish Tourism industry was in difficulty. “I am an expert on tourism”, explained current US President Donald Trump in 2011 at the time when Trump cautioned the Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond: “Wind turbines, made in China, are going to be the destruction – almost a total destruction – of your travel and tourism industry.”
Trump never considered in renewable energy and was mentioning wind farms as ugly “monsters” that has the capacity to “ruin” the Scottish coasts. Trump further added that the support of the Scottish Minister for wind power will affect his personal legacy in terms of minister to be as ‘the man who destroyed Scotland.’ Trump went on to say, “If you dot your landscape with these horrible, horrible structures, you will do tremendous damage.”
Trump’s anxiety for his Scotland golf course was an important factor for all of this. “I object in the strongest possible terms to the current location of wind turbines as proposed … which are only 2 km from my championship golf course and directly opposite Royal Aberdeen Golf Club,” Trump wrote on Sept. 14, 2011.
“Many are already considering my Golf Course in Scotland to be the greatest golf course anywhere in the world,” Trump continued.
The Scottish Government is keen on renewable energy sources in order to meet present demand for electricity by 2020. There had been a growth of 9% in tourist visits to Scotland that year. The research made by VisitScotland shows that 80% of UK people mentioned that the presence of a wind farm would in no way impact their decision in terms of where to stay during a vacation or short break in Britain.
