‘Tourism activities at present in Bangladesh is adding momentum for the rapid growth of the sectors benefitting involved stakeholders and has started contributing to the national economy. To catch up the global trend we are to intensify our mission in a positive way like the present government has declared Bangladesh Tourism Year 2016, further extended to 2018.’ opined Mr. Amir Hossain Amu, Minister for Ministry of Industries.
He was speaking as the Chief Guest while inaugurating the 3-day long 6th Bangladesh International Tourism Fair arranged by Bangladesh Foundation for Tourism Development (BFTD), a non-profit endeavor and the only of its kind in the Bangladesh tourism sector from 19 – 21 May 2016 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC), Shere Banglanagar, Dhaka. Like all the previous years, the fair was attended by nearly 200 national and international tourism organizations & stake–holders with their show-cases for the visitors of this gala exhibition. The minister further stressed on the promotion of the significant destinations of Bangladesh treasure for home and outside tourists.
Presided over by Mr. A S M Abdul Motin, President, BFTD the inauguration session was attended by among others the dignitaries of the foreign mission, government officials, national & international tourism specialists, and stakeholders.
Eight countries including India, Nepal, Bhutan, Philippine, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand participated, There were around 120 stalls.
There were 20,000 visitors.
Besides the exhibition stalls by the stakeholders with special tourism offers, the event also included seminar, cultural shows, visit programs, discussion and business meets etc. to promote tourism development of Bangladesh and in the region.
Bangladesh Foundation for Tourism Development (BFTD), is formed with the target to offer services to the government, non-government and other private tour operating groups & stake-holders with activities towards framing national tourism policies, conduct research & studies, global information exchanges etc. for country’s tourism development. In the process, the BITF’2016 was aiming the development of tourism sector of the country through mass awareness globally with special emphasis on Bangladesh & the South-Asian region. BFTD has taken the opportunity to foster understanding through mutual communication and thereby move with the concerted approach by the stake-holders for the benefit of tourism sector.
At the closing session date for BITF 2017 has been declared May 18, 19 and 20, 2017.
