Billions to expect global-flood by 2060

British aid charity is warning the world about a possible global flood by the year 2060 due to global warming. Billions of lives could be at jeopardy if the situation is not controlled beforehand.

The study by Christian Aid predicts India, China and US to be facing the wrath of climate change. The eight cities, which can be compromised, are mostly Asian. Some coastal cities in Miami and US will be affected too. To be a little more specific, Mumbai and Kolkata in India, significant portion of Florida and Miami in US, are to expect most of the blow.

The author of the report, Dr Alison Doig mentioned, “I think it’s cities like Kolkata, Dakar, the big mega-cities of the south and the emerging economies where the people are most vulnerable to exposure to sea-level rises and to higher rain events.” She also added that the coastal cities are at most risk of severe damage and can create life threat to the citizens.

Doig explained why Florida is in a vulnerable position. She stated, “It is so low-lying, it is virtually swampland reclaimed. So significant climate change… raising water half to a full metre this century, will take out an awful lot of Florida and a significant amount of Miami.”

It is reported by some Australian researchers that, due to the rise in the sea-level, five uninhibited reefs disappeared under the Pacific Ocean recently. The islands were of up to five hectares in size. It has also been noticed that coastal villages of Ghana are reducing in size because of coastal erosion.

The study by Dr. Alison suggests to reduce carbon emissions swiftly and also to reduce global warming by applying special means.

If the situation is not controlled in time, the world tourism is going to face a financial breakdown by 2060 seeing as coastal cities like Florida, Miami, and Mumbai attracts numerous tourists every year. The fiscal collapse in China, India and US tourism industry would eventually affect the world economy.
