The Birmingham Whisky Club, the city’s only whisky tasting events company has launched a new series of events devised specifically for women. ‘Whisky Women’ tastings are about encouraging more women to get to know this historic drink, as well as learn more about its production and history in a fun, informal – and exclusively female – environment.
The Birmingham Whisky Club’s founder, Amy Seton, believes that ‘Whisky Women’ is needed to help women feel more knowledgeable and confident about drinking whisky.
She said, “Having worked in the industry for a number of years now, I have seen first hand that women are still in a big minority when it comes to whisky drinking. Happily the presence of ‘whisky women’ is on the increase – there are many more of us now providing a voice for women whisky-drinkers around the world. Whisky brands are also starting to wake up to what the spending power of women means for their products.
“In recent years whisky has become ever more popular, but with such choice it is difficult to know where to start. This event will help people understand the global whisky business and more importantly, how to nose, taste and what to look for when choosing a whisky. I think ‘Whisky Women’ will particularly appeal to whisky novices who are curious about the drink and would like to learn more, plus are up for a bit of a social and networking opportunity with other like-minded women who live and work in and around Birmingham.”
The events are the only ones of their kind in the West Midlands, and ‘Whisky Women’ joins only a handful of similar events around the country in catering specifically for women.
The next inaugural event will be held on Friday 15th November at The Church, JQ.
