A boat that was carrying illegal immigrants of Indonesia had capsized in rough seas off Malaysia according to an official update on Tuesday. The incident left as many as 25 people missing and 12 people dead.
Earlier on Monday, the bodies of four men and six women were discovered at a beach close to the east coast town of Mersing, as stated by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency.
The local; agency said that the dead bodies of two other men were believed to be Indonesian.
The agency had stated earlier that there were about 40 Indonesians on the boat and all of them were illegal immigrants. The nine-metre boat was specially designed for just 15 people. It was travelling to Malaysia from Batam Island of Indonesia during the time when it capsized.
Two passengers were rescued and rushed to the hospital. However, their condition is unknown.
A search has been suspended on account of bad weather. However, about 45 officers are conducting thorough search in the hope of detecting survivors. The agency said that the boat might have sunk since it was overloaded and hit by rough seas as well.
Accidents of such type are quite common, though no further details have been provided.
