Booneville to introduce its tourism tax

BoonevilleIn the current scenario, if you dine out in Booneville and put up at any city hotel, be prepared to pay bit more.

Lately, two percent extra taxes on restaurants, hotels and motels will be imposed this month in Booneville.

To note, the voters have accepted to pay the tax in June as a way to endorse the tourism of the place along with parks and recreation options throughout the city.

Mayor Chris Lindley explains that there are already quite a few options in terms of the expected revenue, like Phase Two of a splash pad, or building nicer basketball courts.

“It has to be designated, we have paperwork forms, we went to Jackson, talked to state auditor, and will know how to do it when the time comes, we haven’t got our first check but we’re looking forward to it,” Mayor Lindley said.

Funds collected from the taxes will be deposited into a special account, apart from the general fund of the city.  Mayor Lindley explains that the city officials are yet to decide on how the money will be divided between tourism and parks.
