Assam is prepared to celebrate one of its mega cultural festivals-‘Namami Brahmaputra’ for the first time in its history. This festival is aimed at cherishing the wonderful beauty of this mighty river. This event of international stature will be organized across 21 districts of Assam from 31st March 31 to April 4.
The River Brahmaputra is integral to Assam’s socio-cultural life. This grand river has always played a principal role in influencing the lives and lifestyle of several communities and ethnic groups. The main idea behind this cultural festival is to promote the potential of Brahmaputra in a global scale. Work of this project is already going on in full swing, so that this festival reaches out to maximum people throughout the world, representing the state as a sought after tourist destination.
Brahmaputra has not only enriched lives of people with music, art and literature but also evoked a sense of awe and wonder with its sculpted twists and turns.
The rich culture of Brahmaputra has been challenged by various threats in recent times. Deforestation is one among them, increasing siltation levels, flash floods, soil erosion, endangering various communities. The festival ending on the auspicious day of Ashokashtami, aims to promote a sense of accord and brotherhood amongst all the communities of the state. This mega carnival will simultaneously be held at different locations on the banks of the river starting from Sadia to Dhubri. This festival plans to represent Assam as a tourist destination on the world map.
