Brand USA wants Indians to travel to the United States of America. The largest sales mission of Brand USA, which had 51 participants from 37 companies, interacted with travel agents and tour operators in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru during a road show September 18 to 23.
Cathleen Domanico, vice president, global trade, Brand USA, told this correspondent that the U.S. was targeting luxury travelers from India as well as those under 35, who now had the resources to travel.
This year Chicago and Georgia were the new participants in the anual Brand USA sales mission.
India was 11th in tourism arrivals to the USA, and number 7 in spending.
2014-15 saw an increase in spending by 18 per cent. Luxury travel was up 12% from India.
In 2015, more than 1.1 million Indians visited the US, an increase of 17 per cent over 2014.
January- March 2016 saw 11.9 increase in arrivals.
Indians enjoy visiting U.S. National Parks, and also Florida has seen an increase in Indian arrivals. This may be thanks to better air connectivity established by Turkish Airlines and Emirates with direct flights to Florida.
The Kennedy Space Centre was a big draw.
Reps of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitor Bureau revealed that heritage, museums and over 100 universities attracted tourists.
Marc Anderson, Choose Chicago VP, upbeat on India, on his first mission, said the Windy City will attend again.
Georgia was the second destination to be at the mission for the first time. Director Tracy Vaughan, said 57,000 Indians came to Georgia in 2015.
