Members of the Nevada tourism industry will converge at Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa, Dec. 3 -5, 2013 for the annual Governor’s Conference on Tourism. The conference will feature internationally renowned speakers, business-building opportunities and critical insights into branding and technology to help boost sales and marketing efforts. The conference also features Gov. Brian Sandoval’s annual address to the tourism industry as well as a welcome from Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki, the chairman of the Nevada Commission on Tourism.
“Nevada’s $58 billion travel industry is a powerhouse in the state’s economy, employing more than 450,000 Nevadans and marketing to potential visitors from across the globe,” Lt. Gov. Krolicki said. “The Governor’s Conference is one of the ways Nevada’s tourism professionals maintain an edge in an increasingly competitive arena and grow this important component of the state’s economy.”
With the theme “Setting the Stage,” the conference is designed to provide attendees with information that lays a solid foundation for innovative strategic planning. Speakers include author and futurist James A. Taylor, who will provide insights into the global economy and how marketers can reach the most valuable travelers. He will be joined by Duane Knapp, founder of BrandStrategy, Inc., who will speak on creating a genuine brand; Chuck Underwood, a generational marketing pioneer; Dr. Peter Tarlow, an internationally sought-after expert on safety; and technology insights from Google and tourism technology leader Susan Sweeney. The full list of presenters can be found on the conference agenda.
“This years’ event brings tremendous speakers and business development opportunities together in one place,” Nevada Commission on Tourism Director Claudia Vecchio said. “As sales and marketing environments continue to evolve into increasingly fragmented channels, marketers must understand how to find customers, create brand champions and break through the immense clutter. The information provided at this conference will help accomplish these goals.”
The Nevada Marketplace, a trade show connecting Nevada suppliers with domestic and international buyers, will bring more than 30 domestic and international tour operators, travel agents, airlines, receptives and wholesalers to the conference for one-on-one sales meetings with Nevada’s tourism industry, helping to create real business-building opportunities. Two post-conference familiarization tours — one to eastern Nevada, the other through south-central Nevada — will provide buyers with a firsthand look at many of the area’s most appealing tourism experiences. And, as NCOT prepares to celebrate 10 years in the China market, the conference also will feature a “Focus on Asia” international panel, providing insights from marketing, sales and commercial services professionals from China, South Korea and Japan.
Begun in 1983 by Gov. Richard Bryan, NCOT will commemorate its 30th anniversary with a celebration Dec. 3 at the Fremont Street Experience. Showcasing memorable moments from NCOT’s history, the event will highlight the extraordinary growth of Nevada’s tourism industry and its impact on the state’s economy.
The conference also includes a partnership with the Nevada Hotel & Lodging Association, with the best and brightest in Nevada’s travel industry recognized at the Stars of the Industry Awards Gala. The event is set for 6:30 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa.
