The Ministry of Tourism said that 10,000 free technical courses for college and school students will be offered. Aimed at the travel markets, these courses will be available in various cities in 18 different states. Classes will begin from August onward.
The curriculum included technical skills in travel domain like kitchen, tourism guide, events, lodging, leisure, bar and restaurant. Interested candidates should contact the state department of tourism of each locality.
Local administration will define date and form of registration along with state secretariats of Education. Its part of Medio Tech, a subset of the National Program of Access to Technical Education and Employment (PRONATEC), launched at the end of last year.
Total of 82,000 places will be covered in the program as per the Ministry of Education (MEC). To quote Mendonça Filho, Minister of Tourism, ‘The program gives more autonomy so that young people can define their future from the educational point of view of our country’s training schools.’ In Brazil, 8.4 percent of high school enrolments are associated with technical courses and this percentage is way below European countries where more than 40 percent of enrolments get this training.
