With the arrival of the Carnival in Brazil, the Brazil Tourism Ministry is focused on ‘Protect campaign – do not look away’ which deals with combating violence against children and adolescents. On January 6, the program coordinator of Sustainable Tourism and Childhood (IST), Adelino Neto, attended a meeting of the Intersectoral Committee to Combat Sexual Violence against Children and Adolescents, the Human Rights Secretariat of the Presidency (SDH / PR), which dealt with this and other campaigns.

Besides supporting the campaign, the Tourism Ministry will head three more campaigns to deal with the problem in 2013. The first will be released on May 18, National Day to Combat Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents while the second in June during the Confederations Cup when it opens in the summer season and the third in November.

“Our children and adolescents need care during this period. We need to be vigilant, if necessary, to report via Dial 100, “said Adeline. “The idea is that the campaign will continue in the immediate and long term, so that whenever the topic of violence against children and adolescents is highlighted it is strongly restrained.”

The campaign was launched last week which will extend over the coming months, most significantly on festive occasions and large events such as Carnival, the Confederations Cup and World Cup. Tourism Secretaries of states and municipalities have already receiving the campaign materials which will be distributed throughout the country: 92 000 posters, 20 000 masks, 117 500 car stickers, lapel stickers 20,000, shirts, hats and water bottles. Other forms of advertising have also been created such as film and television jingle for radio. The Brazilian airports will also have banners at strategic locations to catch the attention of Brazilian and foreign tourists to the subject.

In addition to campaigns, the meeting also discussed the National Plan to Combat Sexual Violence against Children and Adolescents, which will be released on May 18, National Day to Combat Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents.
