The study of the needs and potential of rail tourism in Brazil and updating the booklet ‘Guidance for Proposition Projects and Cultural Tourist Trains’ are the next steps of the Working Group (WG) composed of industry representatives and the Brazil Ministry of Tourism. Aiming at promoting this segment, the Tourism Ministry has created a GT that since 2010, discusses recovery actions.

Tourism is one of the career options of many Brazilians. Gradually, the area has evolved as an important tourist and cultural destination. Going by railway of 30,000 kilometers, the Brazilian trains meet different tastes. Brazil currently has 32 tourist trains in operation, spread over 11 states in the Southeast, South and Midwest. The tours provide a journey through the history of Brazil showcasing its culture, scenery and charm.

Besides the Ministry of Tourism, through the Department of Structuring, Joint Planning and Tourism (DEAOT), the GT is composed of Ministry of Transport (MT), National Transportation Agency (ANTT), National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT), Institute of Historical and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN), Office of Equity Union (SPU), the Inventariança Extinct Federal Railways (RFFSA), Brazilian Association of Tour Operators Trains Cultural (ABOTTC) and National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES).
