Brexit stimulates increased US to UK travel

UK travelBrexit has stimulated a renewed interest among the Americans to travel to UK thanks to the weakening of the pound against the US dollar.

According to the latest data released by British Airways, the number of Americans travelling to UK has increased to a large extent in the last few weeks. The data also said that the number of flight searches on the official website of British Airways has risen dramatically by 138% from US to UK over the last portion of this month. The flight searches to UK from different parts of the world increased by 97% in the next two weeks following Brexit.

This increase in travel interest might be a contributory factor towards making the UK-based airlines quite lucrative. Immediately after Britain’s vote to exit the European Union, IAG and other stocks of UK-based airlines plunged by 18 to 22%. IAG is the parent company of British Airways. Willie Walsh, chief of IAG has said that British Airways would not compromise with jobs or the seating capacity due to the vote of Brexit.

He added that a rise in tourism would compensate for the loss that the company has incurred due to Brexit vote.

The US travelers are also excited about the potential benefits that are associated with the decision of Britain to quit the European Union. One of the travelers said that he was reluctant to purchase anything when a pound used to equal 2 dollars. But, with the Brexit vote, he says that he spends quite comfortably in the US without any worries at all.

Airlines have also started offering sale fares with an aim to draw more travelers. British Airways have introduced a business class fare. Other airlines too have declared some incentives to lure travelers to UK.
