Bristol Airport’s Advice For Passengers This Summer

Bristol AirportMore than 95,000 passengers will be using Bristol Airport over the next four days (24-27 July) as the summer holiday season gets into full swing.

Top destinations proving popular for the summer getaway so far are Palma, Faro, Dubrovnik, Pula and Santorini. But passengers heading off for some sunshine are being asked to follow a few simple steps to ensure a smooth start to their journey.

Chris Ware, Head of Security at Bristol Airport, said:

“Since the start of the busy summer season we have noticed an increase of oversized liquids in passengers’ cabin baggage, and often these items are not being placed in clear plastic bags ready for checking by our security team. It seems that younger passengers in particular are having their bags packed for them, often by well-meaning mums and dads who may not be aware of the rules about taking liquids through security.”

“The policy for liquids, gels and pastes – which can include toiletries, perfumes, cosmetics and food – was introduced at all UK Airports in 2009. Initially the implementation was supported by a high profile advertising campaign, but with the passing of time it is easy for passengers to forget to have liquids in 100ml containers placed in a clear transparent re-seablebag,no larger than 20cm x 20cm holding a maximum of ten items.

“Passengers arriving at security can save time by following simple guidelines – have their boarding pass ready, liquids in a clear bag separate from hand luggage, remove jackets or coats, and take laptops, iPads and tablets from hand luggage. By keeping these steps in mind, passengers can reduce delays for everyone and start enjoying their holiday that little bit sooner.”

This summer passengers will be able to enjoy the recently opened £8.6m extension to the departure lounge for the first time. The new look departure lounge offers enhanced facilities featuring hundreds of additional seats as well several retail and catering brands new to Bristol Airport, including a bar and restaurant providing al-fresco dining under a retractable roof.

During the busy summer season passengers are also reminded to allow extra travel time to the airport and to check-in at least two hours before scheduled flight departures and three hours before charter flight departures.
