A global poll revealed that Britain had risen to 20th in a list of the top 50 most beautiful countries on the planet, and its highest ranking on record. Britain, as place of “natural beauty” has hit an all-time high with Indians, Chinese, and Australians.
Visit Britain believes that typically Britain scores well as a place for culture and heritage but less so for its rolling countryside. However, the annual Anholt Gfk Nations Brand Index revealed Britain was judged as the fifth out of 50 for natural beauty by voters in India, ninth by those in China and 12th by Australians.
Visit Britain in August disclosed plans to entice more tourists into the regions and away from London, which attracts almost half of all overseas visitors. The organisation said it wanted to highlight castles, Suffolk’s pubs, and market places such as Lincoln as a romantic
destination to rival Florence.
Helen Grant, minister for tourism, said: “Great Britain has a huge amount to offer tourists – spectacular scenery, world class museums, fantastic sport and incredible theatre and welcoming people. IT is encouraging that over a year on from London 2012 we have enhanced our reputation even further. Tourism is a crucial part of our economic growth and it’s important that we continue to champion the best of Britain to the world.”
