British Airways flight diverts to Gander due to mechanical glitch

British_Airways_A380British Airways flight, which was destined to Newark from Paris, was forced to divert and land at the Gander International Airport around 4 pm local time as the flight faced a mechanical snag.



The Gander International Airport authorities gave a confirmation that all the 96 passengers and the four crew members were evacuated safely from the Boeing 757 after the emergency landing.



The airport authorities also informed via twitter that they activated the ‘airport emergency control centre’ to handle the emergency situation.



The RCMP and the Gander fire rescue services were called around 3:30 pm local time at the airport ground as a preventative measure. Police cruisers and Fire trucks were also put on standby near the runway during the emergency landing. The Gander Fire rescue authorities informed that they were called to fight a probable fire on an aircraft.



Neither the airlines nor the airport authorities gave away any detail about the mechanical snag on the New Jersey  bound flight.
