British Airways (BA) has started to introduce self-service biometric boarding gates on its international flights out of the US, as it works in partnership with Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
The brand new technology that was created by Vision Box.
It would create a quicker boarding process as passengers no longer are required to present their passport or boarding pass at the gate, but only during check-in and security.
Instead travellers look inside a camera before the landing, while waiting for the biometric data to be verified and then walk on towards the aircraft.
Similarly to facial identification that was created into mobile phones these biometric entrances utilize high definition camera technology and permit customers to pass through by recognizing their unique facial features and reconciling them with the digital facial scan taken as part of the immigration procedure.
And the gates have been installed on three stands at LAX.
Led by MAX the project leverages technology that is already in use by BA on its domestic flights from Heathrow’s Terminal 5 that checks biometric data of customers while they scan their boarding pass.
Carolina Martinoli, BA director of brand and customer experience mentioned that they had been utilizing biometric technology that consumers are presently familiar with and trust since it delivers a reliable experience.
