Recently the US government has banned many Muslim families from visiting their country. Amid the claims of racial discrimination in the US, the country has denied the entry of more than 20 British Muslim tourists who had applied for tourist visas.
A British father who had planned his holiday two months in advance with his family of 11 members to Disneyland was compelled to cancel his plans at last minute from Gatwick to Los Angeles.
He was told by officials that there was a phone call from Washington which had banned Mr. Mahmood and his party from getting on the plane. No reason was given. The family was broken-hearted as their planned trip was spoilt for some unknown reason.
This move has been greatly criticised by British MP Stella Creasy, who felt that the British premier should have a word with the US counterpart. Donald Trump called for a temporary ban on Muslims visiting the US due to concerns about extremist attacks.
Muslims fear that this approach will corner the Muslim community. They feel that America should not racially profile anyone. These kinds of incidents are becoming common and regular harassments on Muslim travellers may lead to another problem as bans are increasing in number in the recent time. Katie Olivia Hopkins, a British television personality and columnist has supported the US for stopping the family. She called them terrorists as Waltham Forest, the London borough where the Mahmoods live, was a “known hotbed of extremism”. She also remarked “I find it utterly improbable two men with the entire Mahmood clan were travelling without the company of a wife or mother to such a family-orientated destination.” She also congratulated the USA Homeland Security Force for a job well done.
