Broncos fever has taken over Denver International Airport (DEN), which is celebrating the hometown Denver Broncos’ appearance in Super Bowl 50 this Sunday with a variety of special events and passenger amenities:
Broncos Experience Zone
The Great Hall, located in the center of the Jeppesen Terminal on level 5, has been decked out in Broncoscolored lounge furniture, including orange and blue tables and comfortable seating, which sits on a 1,300- square-foot artificial turf. The Broncos Experience Zone also includes a life-sized cutout of Broncos mascot, Miles, and a giant image of the airport’s famous blue “Mustang” for passengers to take photos with as part of DEN’s “Wish You Were Here” installation.
Bowl People love football, and people love puppies, so the airport is hosting its very first DEN Puppy Bowl. The event will include two Denver puppies (Ollie, a 4-month-old poodle mix, and Moose, a 3-month-old poodle mix) making an appearance in this year’s nationally televised Animal Planet Puppy Bowl XII, as well as adoptable dogs from the Dumb Friends League. Staff from the Dumb Friends League will be on hand to referee the Puppy Bowl and educate travelers about pet adoptions from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday. The DEN Puppy Bowl will be located in the center of the Jeppesen Terminal on level 5.
The “Train Call” announcement as passengers ride the train to the terminal currently features Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock with a Super Bowl message that says: “Welcome to Denver, home of the AFC champion Denver Broncos! This is Mayor Michael Hancock, and I’d like to invite everyone here in Broncos Country to be united in orange as we head to Super Bowl 50. Go Broncos!” The Train Call announcement previously featured Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas welcoming people to the Mile High City.
“Orange Crush” Giveaway
The DEN customer service team will be handing out a variety of orange products to celebrate the airport being “United in Orange.” Thursday through Sunday, the information booths in the terminal and on all three concourses will give away Orange Crush soda, oranges, orange candy, beads, buttons and more — while supplies last. Booths will be decorated in hard-to-miss Broncos colors, with airport staff and volunteers in the area passing out goodies to help inspire the Broncos faithful.
The airport’s Jeppesen Terminal is named for aviation pioneer Elrey Jeppesen. Jeppesen was an important figure in early aviation and in Colorado history, bringing standards of navigation and safety to the new industry. The bronze statue of Jeppesen, by artist George Lundeen, stands in the center of the Great Hall on level 5. This week, the Captain’s likeness is wearing a Broncos shirt in honor of the home team.
