As per Stacy Ritter, CEO of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau, the shooting incident on Jan 6th at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) couldn’t slow down the travel trend of this region. To quote Ritter, “We are not seeing any effect on tourism as a result of this senseless and random act. We are confident that the goodwill we have built with visitors will assure our continued tourism popularity and success’’.
The CEO also expressed her sincere condolences to the family members of the victims at the shooting incident at innocent travelers at Terminal 2 of the Florida airport killing 5 people with 6 wounded. Random violence and mass terrorism is affecting many travel companies and local tourism worldwide. Shooting at one of the major airports of Florida at prime hours could have seriously injured tourism business reputation beyond measures. However, a recent study of World Trade and Tourism Council confirms that violence and terrorism doesn’t have any long term effect on destinations where they take place. To quote Ritter, “Greater Fort Lauderdale is and has always been known as a safe and welcoming destination. Our normal schedule of marketing activities is underway including a newly launched Hello Sunny TV [network] and the promotion of a recently released ground breaking advertising brand campaign featuring transgender models.”
